Al-Jazeera bureau chief fined for "disseminating false information"

Four BBC Worldwide channels for DStv

[Issa Sikiti da Silva] BBC Worldwide Channels, in partnership with MultiChoice Africa, has said that it will launch four new channels - BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Knowledge and BBC CBeebies - from 1 September 2008 on the DStv platform to replace and build upon the success of its existing channels, BBC Prime and BBC Food. Egyptian authorities raid satellite communications supplier

The Egyptian government has initiated a drastic move to thwart satellite channels. It reportedly raided one of the most important companies offering satellite equipment for rent and confiscated five sets of its broadcasting equipment recently. Egyptian state-run satellite, Nilesat, stopped the transmission of Alhewar TV on 1 April 2008 without warning or giving clear reasons for their decision. Alhewar TV, which broadcasts from London, is viewed by thousands of people in the region via the Nilesat satellite.
