The ability of business communicators to engage stakeholders was addressed at the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Africa Region's 16th annual conference. The event was held at Kievits Kroon Country Estate and Spa near Pretoria earlier this month. 
Lindi Engelbrecht, chief executive of the Institute of Directors (IoD), will be one of the keynote speakers at the 2009 IABC Africa conference to be held 8 - 9 October 2009 at Kievits Kroon Country Estate and Spa, Gauteng, South Africa. She will discuss the impact of the King Report III on the communication profession and the fundamentals around engaging stakeholders and the consequent business impact. 
Mark Schumann, recently appointed chair of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) in June 2009, is a keynote speaker at the 2009 IABC Africa conference. The conference will be held at the Kievits Kroon Conference Centre, Pretoria, South Africa, 7 - 9 October 2009. 
According to the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), despite the current financial crisis causing a decline in membership, the organisation is growing in Africa. Membership statistics released earlier this week revealed that the IABC Africa region had the highest growth (37.84%) and retention rate (85%) in the world, year on year. 
The NEPAD Business Foundation for Africa (NBF) recently established a new sector in the organisation for media and communications. It is headed up by Sharon Penhallrick, MD of Telmar SPC. The Media and Communications sector was set up in order to communicate the NBF's activities more successfully. 
South Africa's chief electoral communicator, Kate Bapela, will preside over the 22nd All Africa Public Relations Conference to be held in Gambia from 24 -27 May 2009 at the Sheraton Hotel. Bapela is the first female president of the Africa Public Relations Association (APRA).
